The release date for the 14.04.2 LTS (Long Term Support) version of "Trusty Tahr" has been pushed back two weeks to February 19, 2015. Story with more details on Softpedia.

Just announced on the Linux Mint Blog: LM 17 Qiana with the K Desktop Environment (KDE) has been released.  From the blog post: "Linux Mint 17 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use."

Easy to use, Windows XP replacement for older PC hardware. Based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with LInux Lite specific repository and software. They have an active user forum for tips and support. Looks like a very good candidate to try out!
