Change Computer Name

Don't like the default computer name given when you installed your Linux distro? You can rename it by editing two files: /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname

  1. Open up the terminal window with Control + Alt + T
  2. Type in command sudo nano /etc/hostname
  3. Remove the current name and type in the new name
  4. Save the file with Control + O and exit with Control + X
  5. Type in command sudo nano /etc/hosts
  6. Edit the second line 127.0.1.1 to type in the new name
  7. Save and exit as in step 4
  8. Restart the computer to enable the change
